Can I carry this? Backpack load check
A common rule of thumb is to keep a loaded backpacking pack at or under about 20% of your body weight, and a daypack nearer 10%. Enter your body weight and what's in the pack — base gear, food and water — and we'll show your total load, the percentage, and where you could trim.
The 10% and 20% figures are widely used rules of thumb, not medical limits. Fitness, terrain, pack fit and trip length all matter — if you have back, joint or heart concerns, ask your doctor what's right for you.
General planning guidance based on common hiking practice and published manufacturer sizing — not a substitute for your own judgment, a proper gear shakedown, or professional instruction on backcountry safety. Always check current conditions before you head out.
